Secure E-Mail With Google GMail
This is something that I’ve prepared myself, recently, to send mail through Gmail without the unencrypted e-mail stored on the servers. To achieve this, you will need a Google GMail account, PGP or GnuPG, Mozilla Thunderbird, and with the Enigmail extension.
First, set your Gmail account to allow POP3 access. This can be arranged in the mail on the web. Gmail will let the system settings you need to make the Thunderbird to use this.
Next, get Thunderbird and the Enigmail extension, and install them, along with PGP or GnuPG. Then, enter in the Thunderbird account settings, such as Google per page.
You must create a PGP key associated with your e-mail address. In PGP, you can do using the GUI interface. With GnuPG, type gpg-gen-key and follow the instructions. You can set the key type, key size (Open with at least 2048 bits. Many people use 4096) and expiration date. Some people have never set them the key to ending, I like the key length of 6 months, so I end up recreating key two times a year, but at least if someone breaks or acquires lock me during that time, they will not have long to do so, and not use it, get changed again before!
Finally, associate the keypair with the e-mail address, in the Thunderbird Enigmail, and ensure that the default e-mail to sign and encryption. Collecting the public key of the people with whom you want personal touch, and add them to the PGP or GnuPG keyring. Enigmail akan encrypt e-mail that is sent to the people, and decrypt e-mail sent from them to you. Mail to the recipient that it is important you do not have will not be encrypted, except GnuPG / PGP key can be found for them on the public keyserver.
E-mail securely to prevent other people to read the private communications and authenticate e-mail alert as a message from you.
